Our Surgeons and Staff
Encouraged by family and close friends, Kelley Schilli decided to enter the medical field and, ultimately, to become a nurse. She is now a licensed practical nurse. She has a background in medical/surgical care and has been an employee of Des Peres Hospital for more than 11 years.
More About Kelley Schilli – Weight Loss Nurse
After working with bariatric patients during their hospital stays when she was a floor nurse and then working at MyNewSelf Bariatrics on a temporary basis, Kelley grew passionate about the patients and team at MyNewSelf and decided to move to the program full time. She enjoys how closely she is able to work with both the physicians and the patients noting, “They thank us. Our patients here recognize that we’ve made a difference and that we want to help them, and you don’t always get that [when you work] on an acute floor.”
Kelley takes a very hands-on approach to her job and finds joy in working with patients throughout the entire process of their procedure, recovery, and life thereafter.
Kelley’s own life experiences with the struggles of obesity are a big part of the passion she feels for her job. She states, “I come from a family with a lot of obesity. It’s definitely there, and I definitely have to recognize that so that my kids don’t have to struggle with it someday.”
Regarding her own personal struggles, Kelley says, “I like soda.” And though she sometimes struggles with healthy eating, she embraces healthy living in the most fun way possible: “My son plays hockey…we have a skating rink in our basement, and we love to go down and just play or even dance around.”
Since Kelley knows what it’s like to struggle with obesity, she is able to connect with patients on a level that some others might not be able to. Our patients at MyNewSelf Bariatrics react very well to that.
